SPEAKER: Karin Conway, Tippe Church Garden Manager
TOPIC:  Growing sustainable organic food for the needy
Summary: Exploring possibilities with rooftop and raised bed gardens
Please join us at our own local Food Justice site in Bayview;
Tippe Church serves the homeless and needy by growing organic produce in their 38 raised bed gardens, as well as Milwaukee’s first:  Church Semi-Intensive Vegetative Rooftop Pantry Garden!
All produce to be harvested and donated by DI Garden Keepers at the Unity Soup Kitchen and Congregation of the Great Spirit Food Pantry.  Much gratitude to all who have made this vision a reality, especially Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewage District, The Lake Michigan Foundation, American Rivers Foundation, PCUSA Food Justice Program… with special thanks to Hanging Gardens, a local rooftop garden builder.

Your tour guide will be our own Organic Growth Coach Karin Conway. Karin serves as the Garden Manager at Tippe Church as well as one of the co-hosts of Green Drinks. She is known as the Queen of Resources, because of her passion for utilizing resources. She is certified by VGI with a Food Leader certificate as well as a Permaculture Design Certification. All of the food that she and the other garden keepers grow is given to the needy in Milwaukee’s Bayview community. They have partnered with the Bayview Community Center and Unity Lutheran to facilitate distribution of fresh produce. Their work makes a big difference to the health of those who need a little assistance and can’t afford good clean nutritious food.
The rooftop garden was installed in 2014 by Hanging Gardens. Come see the rooftop as well as the 38 raised beds and other permaculture aspects of the gardens.
