SPEAKER: Michael O’Connor of Dominion Properties

TOPIC: Sustainable Development

Summary: New technologies are powerful “green” tools. New construction projects, such as Sage on Jackson, provide the opportunity to be true stewards of sustainability with geothermal wells, innovative building structures and flooring systems as well as the ability to design efficient spaces. But, technology also allows us to upgrade the efficiency of existing buildings with new windows and doors, ultra high efficiency boilers, zone valves and insulation. We invest in this technology to extend the life of our buildings, ultimately improving life for our residents.

Bio: Growing up Mike O’Conner made frequent moves between the cities of Milwaukee, Chicago, and Atlanta, but chose to return to earn a degree in Political Science from Marquette University. This political thinking helps him analyze situations, make good business decisions and build quality relationships. Outwardly, Mike is very social and fun to be around, while inwardly he is serious about finding properties, exploring them and closing the deal. He has a gifted vision about the potential of what each property and project could become and the energy to see that it does.

Mike believes in neighborhood integrity, sustainability and leaving a legacy; he wants Dominion Properties to leave a positive mark on Milwaukee. Recently receiving the 2012 “Cream of the Cream City Award” from the Historic Preservation Commission of the City of Milwaukee, Mike is recognized as a thoughtful steward of historic buildings. While the company greatly benefits from his leadership, so do the organizations he is involved with– the Southeastern Wisconsin Apartment Association, Milwaukee RING, Milwaukee REIA and the Eastside Milwaukee Community Council. Focused, driven, and outgoing, Mike has big ideas for Dominion Properties and the City of Milwaukee.
