  • Parking: There is free two-hour street parking until 9pm in front of the building, or metered parking on 8th Street and 10th Street. Caution: they do ticket in the evening here. Alternatively, the parking structure across the street offers parking at $0.75/hour.

SPEAKER: Tari Emerson, Director of Sustainability at Kohl’s Department Stores

TOPIC: Kohl’s Sustainability Program and the Journey to Economic Sustainability”

Tari Emerson, P.E. is the Director of Sustainability at Kohl’s. Tari manages the teams responsible for the utilities, sustainability and energy efficiency for all of Kohl’s 1,162 stores located in 49 states. In her tenure in sustainability, her achievements include developing an award winning energy efficiency program with consecutive year over year energy savings. In addition, she has managed the installation of over 150 activated solar power arrays.

She has over 25 years of experience working as an energy, facilities and environmental engineering manager. She is a graduate from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and is a licensed Professional Engineer. She is the 2014 AEE International award winner for Energy Engineer of the Year.

TOPIC: “Fostering ecological understanding as inspiration for change, neighborhood by neighborhood”

Ken Leinbach is the Executive Director of the Urban Ecology Center and a national leader in promoting community-based environmental education. Since 1998, Ken has developed the economically and environmentally sustainable community center, including the Neighborhood Environmental Education Project, the center’s award-winning urban education program. Under Ken’s guidance, the Urban Ecology Center built a $5 million state-of-the-art green facility, expanded by opening a second branch on Milwaukee’s west side and has become a significant asset to the city.
