WHERE: Best Place at the Historic Pabst Brewery. 901 W Juneau, Milwaukee. map it This unique German-style beer hall is located in the Pabst Brewery re-development. The “Brewery” was recently awarded LEED-ND Platinum, making it one of the greenest neighborhood developments in the US. http://www.bestplacemilwaukee.com/

Parking: There is free two-hour street parking until 9pm in front of the building, or metered parking on 8th Street and 10th Street. Caution: they do ticket in the evening here. Alternatively, the parking structure across the street offers parking at $0.75/hour.

SPEAKER: Ronald Roberts, Manager of the Commercial Code Enforcement Division for the City of Milwaukee’s Department of Neighborhood Services. Ron has been with the Department for 30 years. He currently manages the condemnation division where they prepare specifications, conduct bid openings and issue permits for demolition of buildings in the city of Milwaukee.

TOPIC: Recycling Milwaukee Buildings to Create Jobs

Currently, the city of Milwaukee is exploring ways to improve deconstruction as a financially viable option to mechanical demolition of buildings. Thereby diverting more material from the landfills and expanding the recycling/ reuse of salvaged material.

As part of that goal, Ron will speak on deconstruction and efforts made by the city to launch a contract to salvage materials from over 100 city owned properties in an attempt to create markets and create jobs within the city of Milwaukee.

Ron will be joined by two supervisors from the condemnation division along with a representatives from the Running Rebels a CBO, currently engaged in contracts with the city to do Deconstruction and city wide Board-ups.

SPEAKER: Gigi Pomerantz, Founder and Executive Director of Youthaiti

TOPIC: More Cellphones Than Toilets

2.6 billion people in the world live without access to a toilet. about 7 million of them are in Haiti. Hear what one local woman is doing to try to change that. Youthaiti is a Milwaukee based organization dedicated to helping and encouraging Haitian people in their development of ecological projects in sanitation and water-source protection, community gardening and reforestation in their own communities.

Bio: Gigi Pomerantz is Executive Director of Youthaiti, a Milwaukee-based non-profit that does Ecological Sanitation and sustainable agricultural development in rural Haiti. A Family Nurse practitioner at Aurora Sinai for over 30 years, Gigi first traveled to Haiti on a medical mission in 2006. The impact of the lack of sanitation on the health of the people changed her life.
